Unwanted Hair
Unwanted hair on the face, armpits, chest, back, abdomen, pubic area, and legs are common cosmetic complaints. Pseudo Folliculitis Barbae (PFB) is a particular category of unwanted hair of the beard. It commonly occurs with African Americans whose curly hair curves and grows back into the skin, causing a foreign body inflammatory reaction and possible keloid scars.
The Treatment
Unwanted hair with a pigment (not gray or fine blonde hair) is best treated with laser hair removal with the Diode Laser. Hair that is in the growth (telogen) phase responds to laser light. Multiple treatments are necessary to remove the hair, as all the unwanted hairs have to cycle into the telogen phase. Permanent hair reduction is defined by the FDA as no hair growth over a period of 12 months.
