Hyperpigmentation
Hyperpigmentation, a brownish discoloration of the skin, is a very common condition that results from excessive sun exposure. It most commonly starts as freckles. The freckles enlarge and eventually coalesce to become a brownish complexion. This hyperpigmentation is found in all skin types, even people with darker tones. Most of the time, the excessive pigment is uneven, appearing as splotches.
Basic Steps
We start your process with a Visia Computerized Complexion Photoanalysis, which documents your initial condition and subsequent improvement.
The next step is to start Obagi with prescription-strength Retin A and Hyrdoquinone. The Sunscreen/Sunblock protects your skin from further exposure. The Retin A and Hydroquinone lightens the hyperpigmented areas. Vitamin C serum may be added as well, as this potent anti-oxidant also lightens the skin.
Microdermabrasion in series will mechanically exfoliate the skin and increase the absorption and therefore the effectiveness of the Obagi System.
For Extra Care
Stubborn deeper brown areas are treated with a series of IPL (Intense Pulse Light) treatments. This light-based therapy selectively destroys the cells containing the excess pigment, thereby reducing the hyperpigmentation.
Patients who have hyperpigmentation and skin laxity with fine lines will really appreciate Active FX. This fractionated CO2 laser treatment is a single treatment that corrects the hyperpigmentation and tighten the skin.
