Intense Pulse Light (IPL)
Intense Pulse Light is a light-based therapy that is
similar to a laser but uses a broad spectrum of light
and not a specific individual wavelength. We are proud
to offer the Lumenis One IPL. It is a fourth generation
technology from the company that invented the IPL.
It incorporates many safety features that allow us
to treat more aggressively and achieve better result
with less risk of complication. The Lumenis One has
the unique Optimun Pulse Technology (OPT). OPT allows
for high peak power with shorter pulses which is optimal
for photorejuvenation and treatment of benign pigmented
lesions. Its Multiple Sequential Pulsing protects the
epidermis (top cellular layer of skin) while improving
the efficacy in the clearance of vascular lesions.
OPT also equalizes the energy distribution over the
entire pulse of multiple sequential pulses and avoids
an energy spike in the beginning of the pulse that
is found in older IPL technology. The Lumenis One also
has seven different filters. Each filter allows for
a different depth of penetration of the skin and for
greater accuracy in our treatments. The different filters
also allow for different treatment targets such as
brown skin lesions or red skin vessels. The sapphire
cooled tip means that the Lumenis One can deliver more
energy to targeted lesions while protecting the skin
from the heat.
Our primary usage for IPL is for rosacea,
or redness of the skin, difficult brown
skin lesions or hyperpigmentation that topical
cosmeceutical products cannot remove, and poikiloderma which
is a combination of red and brown discoloration of
the skin commonly found along the V-line of the chest
and neck. IPL is the only effective treatment for
reducing the abnormal reds from the skin.
Many spas will use IPL for unwanted
hair removal and although the Lumenis One
certainly can perform permanent hair reduction,
we prefer the more effective Light
Shear Diode laser. This is a good example
of how Truffles brings the best technology for
each individual condition.
